Exhuming Buried Stones: The Treaty of Timurung (1582) during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries

This article examines the Treaty of Timurung concluded in 1582 between Bugis lands Boné, Wajo’ and Soppéng South Sulawesi, Indonesia; manners which this treaty was referred to during two centuries following its conclusion. It looks first at nature treaties generally then ways used a variety political situations. These include Makassar War (1666-69), trials La Maddukelleng 1760s, succession crisis Gowa late 1770s. Based on both published unpublished sources, includes not only text but also comments about attributed numerous early modern state officials. Through diachronic examination single from lesser-known society, offers cross-cultural insights into use as legal tool.
